While this makes all of these applications a bit more interesting visually, in practice I’ve rarely used the flowchart to figure out how the many aspects of a business are related. As is the case with both AccountEdge and QuickBooks 2014, the flowchart attempts to create a visual relationship between various business activities. The application’s interface consists of a sidebar with navigation links to MoneyWorks’ collection of financial tools and a larger main window that displays a flowchart that changes depending on which item you’ve selected in the sidebar.
MoneyWorks uses a flowchart-like interface similar to what’s used by both AccountEdge and QuickBooks for Mac. MoneyWorks offers simple access to all your business data and the options for sharing your data with Mac and PC users on your network. Though all of these apps offer excellent tools for managing your business finances, MoneyWorks Gold stands above the rest, for an excellent user interface.

The first three are traditional invoicing and accounting applications, while Billings Pro offers compelling features, but also requires additional software to complete the package. I looked at four apps for managing your business invoicing and finances: Cognito Software’s MoneyWorks Gold, The Acclivity Group’s AccountEdge Pro, Intuit’s QuickBooks for Mac, and Marketcircle’s Billings Pro. While there are plenty of excellent Web-based apps you can use for tracking your business finances, if you’re uncomfortable with the idea of working within a browser and keeping your business’ financial information in the cloud, a traditional Mac application is your best option. If home is where your heart is, then there’s a pretty good chance that home-or at least your Home Folder-is where you prefer to keep your business’ financial information. "Steve’s proposal would have been interesting if it was just us saying, ‘OK, we’ll pay you every time we use the Mac OS’ – but to pay him for every time we didn’t use it. "The royalty he was talking about would amount to hundreds of millions of dollars, and the math just didn’t work, because most of our customers, especially larger business customers, didn’t really want the Mac operating system," Dell recalled.

Jobs’ counteroffer was that the Mac OS software would be loaded alongside Windows on Dell PCs and customers could choose the software – with Dell paying Apple for every PC sold, no matter whether customers used Mac OS. "Why don’t you license the Mac OS?"ĭell told Jobs that he would pay a license fee for every PC sold with Mac OS, but Jobs responded that such a scheme would undermine Apple’s own sales due to the reduced price of PCs.
"He said, look at this – we’ve got this Dell desktop and it’s running Mac OS," Dell told CNET.

When Jobs rejoined Apple in 1997, when it acquired Next, he offered Dell a license for Mac OS, saying that he could give PC users a choice between Apple’s software or Microsoft’s software. However, Dell told Jobs that there were no applications for it and zero consumer interest, the CEO recalled in his new book Play Nice But Win.
Jobs tried several times to convince Dell to use the Next operating system on PCs, arguing that it was better that Microsoft’s Windows and could undermine Unix.
